| Cornelius Boomsma started the business in 1929, as a
local produce distributor on Chicago’s South Side.
While the early days consisted mainly in selling produce
in Roseland, in 1947 the produce company evolved into Boomsma
Wholesale Eggs. The main strength for many years thereafter
was processing and distributing eggs throughout Chicago
land. The next generation of Boomsma’s expanded heavily
into processing and packaging of eggs, during the 1970’s,
seven plants across the Midwest were in operation. Boomsma’s
operated from a 5000 square foot facility on 127th Street
in Calumet Park. In 1982, the company’s Chicago operation
moved to a 10,000 square foot facility in Lansing Illinois,
and expanded it to 50,000 square feet. In 1982, the Boomsma
Family had operations in Iowa, Minnesota, and Missouri.
Archie Boomsma and his sons Brian and Bruce managed the
Chicago operations. |
1987 was a year of change for the Boomsma company. A change
in business philosophy forced Brian and Bruce to take a different
path, and Dutch Farms, Inc. was created, operating from the
facility in Lansing, Illinois a short time after. From the start
our goal was to bring quality and value to the market place
items sold. Through ongoing growth we outgrew our Lansing facility
and in 1999 we moved to our current facility, at Langley and
107th Street in Chicago.
| In 1995 our product line expanded from eggs and Dutch
Farms branded cheese items, to a full deli and bakery line.
In 1999, packaged meat, fresh meat and frozen seafood were
added to our product line up. We have consistently attempted
to bring the best value of items to all of our product
groups regularly, as our goal is to bring quality products,
with good service at excellent prices.
We now enter into the fourth generation of family involvement
at Dutch Farms, as the sons and daughters of Brian and
Bruce begin their efforts at the company. Now more than
ever Dutch Farms is here to meet the needs of our customers
as the grocery industry is changing. We continue to
update and strive to improve daily on everything from
the quality of eggs, to the latest in technology, in
an attempt to meet your business’ needs. |
